THACO AGRI to promote agricultural investment, contributing to Laos' economy
During a recent meeting with THACO AGRI, Mr. Phet Phomphiphak, the Laotian Minister of Agriculture and Forestry expressed his desire for the company to maintain its investment in Laos' agricultural sector, thereby contributing to the nation's economic growth.
On April 3, the working delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos led by its Minister visited and worked at HAGL AGRICO Laos Complex. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Tran Bao Son, THACO AGRI President and leaders of the Complex.
During the reception, Mr. Tran Bao Son highlighted THACO AGRI's large-scale agricultural production and business in Laos. He presented details on the HAGL AGRICO Laos Complex, an integrated project spanning 27,384 hectares which is committed to synchronous master planning and investment, promoting a cyclical and integrated agricultural model. He also reported on the consolidation of Hoang Anh Quang Minh Company and Hoang Anh Attapeu Company into the Southern Laos Agricultural Company.
The HAGL AGRICO Laos Complex has become a major exporter over the years, with China being a key market for its products. In 2023, the complex generated over $21 million in export revenue, contributing $0.88 million to the Lao budget. This figure is projected to rise to nearly $27 million in 2024, with a contribution of $1.45 million to the state and local budget.
The recent meeting with the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry fostered collaboration opportunities for THACO and THACO AGRI across multiple sectors. The company actively proposed solutions: requesting an evaluation and resolution of challenges related to the Southern Laos Agriculture Company project to expedite its completion. Additionally, THACO AGRI advocated for the construction of access roads surrounding the project, which would not only address local transportation needs but also contribute to a more convenient infrastructure network.
The delegation took the opportunity to visit and assess various agricultural projects within the complex, including the cattle-raising integrated with mango cultivation farm, and a banana farm, focusing on its packaging workshop and worker housing area.
